About
A library that grows slowly.
Polyfall started as a folder of test renders: things made while trying out a rule, kept because they were nicer to look at than the work they were meant for. The library is that folder, cleaned up and put online.
Each loop is produced by a short program. We pick the rule and the palette, let it run, and keep the stretch worth watching. A new loop goes up when one turns out well, which is not often.
How the loops are made
- Fractal. Mandelbrot and Sierpinski sets, rendered frame by frame along a slow zoom or pan.
- Automata. One- and two-dimensional cellular automata. The patterns come from the rule and a starting row; nothing is drawn by hand.
- Field. Moving colour fields, mostly gradients, made as backgrounds.
Playback
Loops are streamed over HLS at 720p and 480p, and the player picks the rung that fits the window. Quality can be fixed by hand under the player.
Using a loop
The library is for watching. Loops are not licensed for reuse at the moment, so please don't download or re-host them.
